A Garden In My Life
The story of the development over the last 40 years
of the garden at Fanshawe Gate Hall, on the South Pennine borders
of the Peak District.
One of the most popular private gardens in Derbyshire,
and listed in the "Good Gardens" guide, Fanshawe Gate
displays both traditional and modern planting schemes in the 16th
century setting of the Old Hall.
A Garden in my Life published in 2001 contains over 200
beautifully reproduced colour photographs and original illustrations
by local artists. The book gives detailed planting schemes and horticultural
advice, as well as recipes from the delicious meals which Cynthia
Ramsden prepares for visitors.
2000 copies were produced and sold out within the year, generating £8000 for the nominated charities. A copy is available to read in Dronfield Library and at Fanshawe Gate Hall on Garden Open Days.
